WF Icon Wehrmacht Infantry

The Wehrmacht infantry is the first line infantry of the German Army, equipped with an MP40 sub machine gun. The Wehrmacht infantry units are cheap, but well trained. In great numbers they are very fast and effective.

Background[]

Real world history[]

While no one questions the bravery, courage or effort of other infantry in World War II, it's almost universally agreed that the Wehrmacht's foot soldiers were, man for man, the best-trained and most effective in either theatre of war.

Characteristics[]

Availability[]

Wehrmacht are available from the very start of the game.

Upgrades[]

Structure-specific[]

  • Capture buildings — Allows the Red Army infantry to capture neutral and/or enemy buildings.

Gameplay[]

Tactics[]

Abilities[]

WF Icon Allied Capture Building Capture building
Capture a resource site or a hostile building. Requires the upgrade from the barracks.
WF Icon Allied Capture Building Use Flare
Requires Tech Level 2. Allows the unit to use a signal flare to see more from the surrounding area during the night.

Counters[]

Light tanks, heroes (most of them), Exoskeletons, light artillery, aircraft, and experimental weapons like the Sonic Tank or Ice Spitter can all make short work of small squads of infantry. They are indeed overall the weakest combat unit in the game. At least, when it comes down to direct fighting.

Assessment[]

Pros[]

  • Can capture the enemies and neutral buildings.
  • Can capture vehicles.
  • Easy to transport and haul around with APCs or helicopters of all kinds.
  • Very cheap and fast to produce.
  • Can fight other infantry and some heroes quite well considering their price.
  • Can "Use Flare" to light up areas during the night.

Cons[]

  • Very vulnerable to most armored units.
  • Slow movement speed.
  • Barely deal damage to most buildings.
  • Require upgrades to capture buildings.
  • Needs Tech Level 2 to use the "Use Flare" ability.
