The M40 is the heavy artillery of the Allied Army. It has medium armour and has a long-range cannon, which causes great damage in large area. Very effective against infantry and buildings too, and can harm light vehicles.[1]

Background[]

Real world history[]

Packing a 155 mm gun, the M40 self-propelled artillery vehicle actually saw very little action in World War II, but it was used by Allied forces in Korea and was adapted for later use by the British. It was officially known as the 155 mm Gun Motor Carriage M40, which would probably have been shortened to a catchy nickname like "Priest" or "Bishop" if it had seen more action.

Characteristics[]

Availability[]

It is available to the Western Allies as soon as they reach Tech Level 3. It can be obtained via the Soviet Black market.

Gameplay[]

Tactics[]

Like most artillery units, the M40 is meant as a long ranged artillery backed up by frontline units like tanks and infantry and should be placed in the rear. They are good for outranging base defenses and damaging them from afar.

Counters[]

The M40 like most artillery are vulnerable up close. Therefore, the best counter to M40s is basically rushing them with fast moving vehicles like light and medium tanks. Even safer option is harassing them with aircraft since they are helpless against air targets.

Assessment[]

Pros[]

  • Makes short work of enemy buildings, light vehicles, and infantry.
  • A lot tougher than the Priest.
  • Can transport heroes.
  • Good range.

Cons[]

  • Requires Tech level 3.
  • Takes a fairly long time to produce and is expensive.
  • Long shell travel time.
  • Slow movement speed.
  • No reliable close-range defense.
