The P-38F Lightning is an excellent fighter-bomber aircraft, which is able to carry air-to-ground missiles, making the Lightning a very effective infantry and tank hunter and as well as a building destroyer aircraft.[1]
The Lightning is also equipped with machine guns, giving it the ability to defend itself against enemy interceptors, but the lack of speed and maneuverability makes it a less effective interceptor fighter, than the Mustang.
Background[]
The Lockheed P-38 Lightning is a twin-engine interceptor, which was deployed as an escort fighter and fighter-bomber. The "Lightning" is an effective combat aircraft against air and ground targets. Along with its standard machine guns, the P-38 was also equipped with unguided rockets.
Gameplay[]
- Pros: Like the Mustang in the interceptor class, neither the Russians or Germans can produce a fighter-bomber close to the Lightning. It's especially deadly once you research the air-to-ground capability: a single Lightning can bring down defensive bunkers and other smaller buildings.
- Cons: Susceptible to fighters and AA fire.
- Bottom Line: Consider the Lightning the most essential tool in your tactical weapons arsenal!
