Mobile force prepped and ready!
Matilda

The Matilda is the light tank and effective scout unit of the Allied Forces, equipped with light armour and light weaponry, making it effective against lightly armoured vehicles and infantry units.[1]

Background[]

Real world history[]

The main tank of the British army at the outbreak of World War II came in several variations, with the Matilda II playing a key role in the North African campaign. As newer German tanks were produced, however, the Matilda proved much less of a threat, and it was phased out of service by 1943.

Structure-specific[]

Gameplay[]

The Matilda is a useful early game vehicle meant for raiding weak positions and infantry platoons. Although the most effective against infantry, the infantry tank can exploit its own fast speed to harass unarmed vehicles and artillery.

Tactics[]

Counters[]

Although strong vs infantry, groups of anti tank rocket infantry are still a major threat against the Matilda. Moreover, commanders with access to higher tier medium tanks and other heavier vehicles can most certainly bully them into submission.

Assessment[]

Pros[]

High Mobility

Strong vs infantry

Cons[]

No match for heavier Tier 2 tanks, like the T34-85, and the Tiger.

Groups of Anti tank infantry can still easily take them out.

Light armor.

Trivia[]

  • Pros: Luckily, this Matilda is considerably speedier than its real-life counterpart, and it packs more single-shot firepower than the Halftrack.
  • Cons: It can hold its own against other nations' light tanks, but that's about it. And its low rate of fire makes it less effective against infantry than the Halftrack, which just happens to have 10 more hitpoints to boot.
  • Bottom Line: You probably won't build too many of these light tanks once you reach Tech Level 2 unless you're running low on resources and can't afford something better.
